Teachers‍‍` network raises concerns over potential irregularities, issues 10 demands

The Dhaka University Teachers‍‍` Network has expressed concerns over possible irregularities in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, issuing a set of 10 precautionary demands to ensure a fair and transparent voting process.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday (September 7) at Madhur Canteen, Dhaka University, the network leaders recalled that observations during the 2019 DUCSU election revealed several irregularities, noting that some of the recommendations from that experience had yet to be implemented.

The 10-point demands presented by the teachers include:

  • Strengthening security without closing entry points and publicly disclosing who will control access.

  • Including female teachers in the verification of female students’ identities.

  • Ensuring transparency in the appointment of polling officers.

  • Extending voting hours until 5:00 PM.

  • Allowing polling agents to remain inside polling stations.

  • Issuing clear guidelines for journalists and polling agents.

  • Assigning teachers and officers to manage lines outside polling booths.

  • Taking strict action against the spread of rumors or false information.

  • Providing rest rooms for observers and polling agents.

  • Holding the election commission and university administration accountable in cases of opacity or irregularities.

The teacher network emphasized that the administration must pay attention to these measures to uphold the integrity of the election process.
